SpiceJet’s Hyderabad-Delhi flight passengers wandered on the airport’s tarmac for 45 minutes on Saturday night, sources claimed.
Sources tell PTI that aviation regulator DGCA is investigating. Spicejet stated there was a little delay in the arrival of coaches, and once they arrived, all the passengers rode them from the tarmac to the terminal building.
Despite staff requests, some people walked toward the terminal. They’d scarcely moved when the coaches came. All passengers, including those walking, took buses to the terminal.
Security concerns prevent passengers from walking on Delhi Airport’s tarmac. The tarmac has a vehicle-only route. Using the defined path, airlines utilise buses to transport passengers from terminal to aircraft.
SpiceJet operates less than 50% of its flights per DGCA orders (DGCA). The regulator ordered the eight-week flight restriction in July after the airline’s planes experienced at least eight mechanical problems between June 19 and July 5.
Sources said SpiceJet’s Hyderabad-Delhi flight landed around 11.24 PM Saturday. They reported a bus quickly took some passengers to terminal 3.
The remaining passengers waited for 45 minutes and then started walking to the terminal 1.5 kilometres distant. After 11 minutes on tarmac, a shuttle took these people to the terminal around 12:20 PM, they said.
When asked about this incident, SpiceJet said in a statement: “The information that passengers of SpiceJet flight Hyderabad-Delhi on 6th August were forced to walk towards the terminal on foot is wrong and is denied.
“There was a brief delay in the arrival of coaches to ferry the passengers from the tarmac to the terminal building.”
“Despite repeated requests from our staff, a few passengers started walking towards the terminal. They had barely walked a few metres when the coaches arrived. All passengers, including those who had started walking, travelled on the coaches to the terminal building,” the airline mentioned.
